REMOVAL - REFITTING SEALING RINGS : ENGINE

Leave the sealing ring on its fitting support in the event of handling, refit the ring on its support and leave the assembly for 30 minutes before refitting .

IMPERATIVE : there must be no marks on the surfaces of the sealing ring .

WARNING : if the lip is deformed, replace the sealing ring .

The sealing rings provide sealing on the crankshaft on the oil pump side and on the engine flywheel side, as well as at the end of the camshaft on the timing pinion side; they consist of a pre-formed teflon lip .

When the engine is started, the oil pressure exerts a force on the lip which makes contact leaving a film of oil on the shaft thus creating sealing .

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS


[1] Fitting drift for sealing ring : Camshaft (-).0194-K .

[2] Fitting drift for sealing ring : Oil pump (-).0194-L .

[3] Fitting drift for sealing ring : Crankshaft (Flywheel end) (-).0194-N .

2 - REMOVAL

2 - 1 - CAMSHAFT SEALING RING

Remove :

IMPERATIVE : there must be no marks on the surfaces of the sealing ring .

Remove the sealing ring .

2 - 2 - OIL PUMP SEALING RING

REMOVE THE TIMING BELT .

Remove the sealing ring .

2 - 3 - CRANKSHAFT SEALING RING

Remove :

Remove the sealing ring .

3 - REFITTING

3 - 1 - CAMSHAFT SEALING RING

IMPERATIVE : wipe away all the oil in the sealing ring housing and make sure that there are no marks on the sealing ring .

Position the sleeve with its ring on the camshaft .

Fit the tool [1] .

Tighten the bolt of the tool until the surface of the tool comes into contact with the camshaft holder .

Remove the tool [1] .

Replace the camshaft pulley and its screw .

Tightening torque 4.5 da.Nm .

REFIT THE TIMING BELT .

3 - 2 - OIL PUMP SEALING RING

IMPERATIVE : wipe away all the oil in the sealing ring housing and make sure that there are no marks on the sealing ring .

Position the sleeve with its ring on the crankshaft .

Position the tool [2] and the crankshaft pulley screw .

Tighten the crankshaft pulley screw until the surface of the tool comes into contact with the oil pump surface .

Remove the tool [2] .

Fit :

REFIT THE TIMING BELT .

3 - 3 - CRANKSHAFT SEALING RING

IMPERATIVE : wipe away all the oil in the sealing ring housing and make sure that there are no marks on the sealing ring .

Position :

Tighten the tool screw [3] until the tool surface comes into contact with the surface of the cylinder block .

Remove the tool [3] .

Refit the flywheel .

Tighten the pre-coated bolts to 1.75 dan.m .

Replace the clutch mechanism .
