REMOVAL - REFITTING DRIVE SHAFTS
1 - REMOVAL
WARNING : the AL4 automatic gearbox is sealed for life; there is no need to drain the gearbox for this operation .
Use a wheel free lift, To make the operation easier .
Remove the wheels .
AL4 AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
USE TOOL [26] TO PREVENT THE HUB FROM TURNING .
IMPERATIVE : never apply the brakes to release the nut (3) as this risks shearing the disc bolts .
Remove :
Right hand drive shaft :
Turn the fasteners a quarter turn .
AL4 AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Remove the securing bolts (5) .
Detach the pivot and pivot the shock absorber body by a quarter turn to avoid damaging the drive shaft gaiter .

Detach the drive shaft from the hub .
Remove the drive shaft .
AL4 AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Replace the pivot in the shock absorber body and retain it using a bolt (5) .

2 - REFITTING
Check :
Rectify If necessary (Consult the brochure : "Drive shafts overhaul" ; Unit overhaul binder) .
Clean and coat with multi-purpose grease the splines of the hub and of the driveshaft on the wheel side as well as the splines of the sun gears of the differential and of the final drive end driveshafts .
Right hand drive shaft :
When refitting the right hand drive shaft, check :
3 - TIGHTENING TORQUE(S)
AL4 AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Drive shaft bearing nut : 1 da.Nm .
Drive shaft nut : 32,5 da.Nm .
Wheel bolts : 9 da.Nm .
Pivot bolt : 9 da.Nm ± 10% .
