REMOVAL - REFITTING RACK GAITER

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] ball joint extractor (-).0709 .

[2] CLIC clip pliers (-).0172-Z .

2 - REMOVAL

Remove the wheel on the side of the gaiter to be replaced .

On the left-hand side :

• remove the battery and its tray

Remove :

• the steering ball joint nut

Uncouple :

• the track rod ball joints (1) using tool [1]

Remove :

• the steering ball joint (1)

Unseat the pipe (2) from the gaiter (3) .

Remove :

• the collar (4)

Unclip :

• the collar (5) ( using a thin screwdriver)

Detach the sealing gaiter (3) .

3 - REFITTING

Grease (TOTAL N3924/TOTAL N3945 grease) :

• the mating surfaces (A) of the rack gaiter
• the rack

Fit a new gaiter (3) .

WARNING : position the mating surfaces of the gaiter correctly at (A) and (B) .

Fit the new retaining collar (5) and tighten it with the collar pliers [2] .

IMPERATIVE : fit the pipe (2) to the gaiter (3) .

Fit :

• the collar (4)
• the steering ball joint ( tightening torque 3,5 da.Nm)

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .

Tighten the wheel bolts to 8,5 da.Nm .

Adjust the wheel alignment .
