REMOVAL - REFITTING PRE-CATALYSERS

1 - REMOVAL

1 - 1 - FRONT PRE-CATALYSER

Remove the vent (1) from the alternator .

Remove the 5 bolts (2) from the heat shield .

Tilt the heat shield on the coolant pipe .

Remove the 3 nuts (3) from the front pre-catalyser .

Unclip the clips from the connectors of the front lambda sensors .

Disconnect the sensors (4) and (5) (press lug A) .

Pass the harnesses for the 2 sensors under the vehicle .

Remove :

• the collar (6)
• the front pre-catalyser (7)
• the metal seal on the manifold

1 - 2 - REAR PRE-CATALYSER

Remove the blue connector from the lambda sensor and remove the clips keeping the harness on the engine .

ML5T GEARBOX

remove the right-hand drive shaft .

4HP20 AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

remove the right-hand drive shaft .

ALL MODELS

Remove :

• the 5 nuts (8) from the exhaust clamp

Remove the ventilation cover from the lower mounting after removing the plastic rivet .

Remove the bolt from the lower reaction link .

Tilt the engine forwards. wedge it in this position with a wooden wedge 5 cm thick .

Remove :

• the 2 bolts (11)
• the 2 bolts (12)
• the bracket for the rear pre-catalyser (13)

Remove :

• the 3 nuts (14)
• the rear pre-catalyser
• the metal seal

Block the holes of the pre-catalyser .

2 - REFITTING

Always renew :

• the collar (6) ( observe the position for assembly of the bolt)
• the metal seal on the exhaust manifold
• the nuts (3),(8), (14)

Fold back the tabs (A) and (B) on the sealing joint behind the manifold clamp in order to keep it in position .

fit the right-hand drive shaft .

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .
