REMOVAL - REFITTING RACK GAITER

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] ball joint extractor (-).0709 .

[2] CLIC clip pliers (-).0172.Z .

2 - REMOVAL

Remove the wheel on the side of the gaiter to be replaced .

When removing the gaiter on the opposite side to the steering wheel, carry out the operations below :

• remove the securing bolts (1)
• detach, the heat shield (2)

Remove :

• the steering ball joint nut

Uncouple :

• the track rod ball joints (3) using tool [1]

Remove :

• the steering ball joint (3)

Unseat the pipe (4) from the gaiter (5) .

Remove :

• the collar (6)

Remove :

• the collar (7) using a thin screwdriver

Detach the sealing gaiter (5) .

NOTE : use a slip product (grease Total N3924/N3945) .

3 - REFITTING

Grease (TOTAL N3924/TOTAL N3945 grease) :

• the mating surfaces (A) of the rack gaiter (4)
• the rack

NOTE : do not apply grease at (B) .

Fit a new gaiter (5) .

WARNING : position the mating surfaces of the gaiter correctly at (C) and (D) .

Fit the new retaining collar (7) and tighten it with the collar pliers [2] .

IMPERATIVE : fit the pipe (4) to the gaiter (5) .

Fit :

• the collar (6)
• the steering ball joint, tightening torque 3,5 da.Nm

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .

Tighten the wheel bolts to 9 da.Nm .

Adjust the wheel alignment .

DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL

Programme the steering wheel angle sensor using the diagnostic equipment (DIAG 2000) .
