REMOVAL - REFITTING HANDBRAKE SHOES

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] Pliers for removing and refitting brake spring (FACOM 196 TS type) .

2 - REMOVAL

Remove :

Completely unscrew the nut (1) while keeping the bolt (2) immobile .

Uncouple the left secondary handbrake cable at (A) .

Remove the locking clip (3) .

Unclip the cable at (B) .

Pull on the cable cover (4) according to (C) in order for the cable to appear .

To release the cable (5), carry out the following procedure :

push the end of the cable against the locking spring (5) according to (6) using a narrow-bladed screwdriver
pull the cable behind the plate to release it from the mechanism (7)

Remove :

the spring (8), using the tool [1]
the springs (9) retaining the brake shoes (10)
the mechanism (7) separating the brake shoes (10)
the adjustment mechanism assembly (11) for the brake shoes (10) and the spring (12)

Clean the backplate (13) ( HENKEL) type product .

Clean, then grease, the adjusting mechanism (11) .

IMPERATIVE : clean the surface A of the hub with an abrasive cloth .

3 - REFITTING

WARNING : observe the direction of assembly of the adjustment mechanism (11) .

On the right-hand side :

position the (D) face of the adjusting mechanism towards the rear of the vehicle

On the left-hand side :

position the surface (D) of the adjustment mechanism towards the front of the vehicle

Assemble both brake shoes (10) and the ajustment mechanism (11) with the spring (12) .

NOTE : the ajustment mechanism (11) must be at the minimum separation point of the brake shoes (10) .

Fit :

Push the cable (5) into its housing until it locks in the brake shoes separation mechanism (7) .

NOTE : check that the end (5) of the cable is in the correct position .

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .

IMPERATIVE : adjust the handbrake .

IMPERATIVE : bed in the parking brake .
