Active Safety Systems:
ASR, the Acceleration Slip Control System
What Does ASR Do?
ASR, prevents rear wheel spin caused by acceleration, resulting in
better better use of available traction, and thus helps improve vehicle control.ASR was introduced in the US for the 1991 Model Year. |
|
|
While ABS helps mantain grip and thus control
while braking, ASR works to maintain grip and control while accelerating. |

In a standard 'open' differential,
torque will be transmitted through both drive wheels. However, if one of the drive
wheels in on a slippery surface, engine torque will be transmitted through the path of
least resistance. |
