REMOVAL - REFITTING CAMSHAFTS

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS


[1] Camshaft hub immobilisation tool (-).0187-F .

[2] camshaft oil seal fitting drift (-).0187-D .

2 - REMOVAL

{{n6983}} deposer les vtc .


Unscrew the camshaft hubs securing bolt by immobilising the camshafts using the tool [1] .

Remove :


Move aside the harnesses .

Remove the supports (2) .

{{N6984}} desserrer progressivement et en spirale les vis des couvre-culasses en commençant par l'extérieur .

Remove the cylinder head cover(s) (3) .


WARNING : slacken the camshaft bearing cap cover (4) securing bolts, progressively and in a spiral sequence starting from the outside, so as to separate the mating surfaces by a few millimetres .

Remove the camshaft from its bearings by gently tapping it on the pinion side .

Remove :


If the tappets are removed :

Remove oil from the threads receiving the camshaft bearing housing securing bolts .

Clean the joint faces with an approved descaling product; Do not use sharp or abrasive tools .

3 - REFITTING

Refitting the tappets :

Lubricate the cams and the bearings (MOLYDAL GB SP 370G) .

Refit the camshaft(s) .


Check that the pins (6) are present .

Deposit a line of sealing compound SILICONE CATEGORIE 2 (AUTOJOINT OR) at (E) around the edge of the mating surfaces .

Refit the camshaft bearing cover(s) (4) .

On the right-hand side .


On the left-hand side .


IMPERATIVE : finger tighten then progressively tighten the securing bolts in the order shown (1 to 12) .

Pre-tightening 0.2 da.Nm .

Tightening torque: 0.8 da.Nm .

Check the tightening : 0.8 da.Nm .

NOTE : the cylinder head covers have composite gaskets which can be used several times, if the gasket is damaged, it can be partially repaired with SILICONE CATEGORIE 2 jointing paste .

Refit the cylinder head cover(s) (3) .

On the right-hand side .


On the left-hand side .


IMPERATIVE : finger tighten then progressively tighten the securing bolts in the order shown (1 to 10) .

Pre-tightening 0.5 da.Nm .

Tightening torque: 0.8 da.Nm .

Check the tightening : 0.8 da.Nm .

IMPERATIVE : before fitting the camshaft seals, ensure that the housing bases are free from jointing compound .

Apply grease to the space between the oil seal lips .

IMPERATIVE : the outer face of the lip seal must be free from all traces of oil .


Fit new camshaft oil seals using tool [2] and the camshaft hub securing bolts (7) .

Fit :

Remove the right-hand upper engine mounting .


Coat the threads and the contact area under the bolt head with MOLYKOTE G RAPID PLUS grease .

Fit :

WARNING : on refitting, observe the following positioning : flange (C) away from the engine for the inlet; flange (C) towards the engine for the exhaust .

Tighten the camshaft hubs securing bolt (7) by immobilising the camshafts using the tool [1] .

There are two possible methods of tightening .

1- Tightening to the angle (recommended) :

2-Tighten to the correct torque :

Fit :

refit the timing belt .

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .
