REMOVAL - REFITTING STEERING MECHANISM

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] ball joint extractor (-).0709 .

2 - REMOVAL

Lift and support the vehicle with front wheels suspended .

Remove :

Using the extractor [1] detach the ball joints .

DRAIN THE HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT .

WARNING : to prevent the power steering circuit becoming contaminated, close the two openings of the distributor valve and the two steering pipes using plastic blanks .

Remove the bolt (1) .

Release the steering universal joint by moving aside the safety clip (2) .

Remove :

Support the sub-frame using a jack (5) .

Remove the bolts (6) - (7) .

DW10TD ENGINE DW10ATED ENGINE

Uncouple the exhaust rubber bushes connected to the sub-frame .

ALL MODELS

Remove the bolt (8) .

Lower the sub-frame by 60 mm .

Remove the heat shield (9) .

Unclamp the steering pipes near the valve .

Remove the bolt (10) .

Using a screwdriver, move aside the clamp (11) from the valve .

Remove :

Remove the steering mechanism by detaching it via the wheel arch on the driver's side .

3 - REFITTING

Always renew :

Key :

Check that the seal (14) is positioned correctly on the boss (A) in relation to the driver's side of the vehicle .

Grease ( LUBRICOMET SP70 grease) : The surface (B) .

Check that the clamping of the pipe (15) and its housing on the gaiters (16) is correct .

Proceed in the reverse order to removal .

IMPERATIVE : tighten the pins (13) to 0.75 daN.m: a tightening torque greater than 0.75 daN.m will damage the steering mechanism .

WARNING : do not forget to refit the notched washers between the steering mechanism and the sub-frame .

Tightening torque(s) :

FILL AND BLEED THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM .

Use new fluid when filling and topping up the system .

Adjust the wheel alignment .
