REPLACEMENT DRIVER'S AIR BAG

1 - REMOVAL

IMPERATIVE : APPLY THE PROCEDURE FOR SWITCHING OFF THE CENTRAL AIRBAG SYSTEM .

Remove the lower side trim (On the driver's side) .

Turn the steering wheel until the spoke is vertical to allow access to the securing bolts (1), (2) .

Remove the bolts (1), (2) .

Pull the airbag gently towards you .

Disconnect the connector (3), (4) .

Remove the steering wheel module .

For safety reasons, remove the airbag upwards and place it in contact with the generator .

Unscrew the fixing (5) by a few threads .

Release the steering wheel from its splines by tapping the rim with your hands .

Remove :

• the bolt (5)
• the steering wheel

WARNING : take care not to pull out the connectors (3), (4) when passing them through the steering wheel .

Remove :

• the fasteners (6)
• the bottom cowl (7)
• the top cowl (8)

Remove the fasteners (9) .

Detach then disconnect the connector (10) from the support .

Disconnect the connector (11) .

Detach the switch routing the harnesses .

Remove the rotary connector .

2 - REFITTING

Proceed in the reverse order to removal .

Tighten the steering wheel to 3.3 m.daN. .

Tighten the bolts (1) to 0.8 daN.m .

WARNING : before fitting the steering column cowls and the module, check that the harness is correctly positioned by manoeuvring the steering wheel .

IMPERATIVE : APPLY THE PROCEDURE FOR SWITCHING ON THE CENTRAL AIRBAG SYSTEM .

2 - 1 - ADJUSTING THE SWITCH IN THE FREE STATE

Check that the wheels are straight ahead .

Turn the plate until the indicator points of the marking triangles are aligned (depending on connector type) .

(A) : The pointer of the upper plate must be in line with the lower plate pointer .

IMPERATIVE : before fitting the air bag module, check that the locking of the connector to the trigger is correct .

Check the operation of the airbag warning light .

WARNING : when replacing the rotary connector release the upper plate retaining clip, after refitting to the stalk .
