Vehicle overhaul is a key issue in the processing of used vehicles. To assist in promoting the proper handling of this matter, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. produced the Vehicle Overhaul Manual for distribution to its sales subsidiary in Japan and related operators. The manual explains how to perform overhaul with due consideration of safety and environmental preservation. In 1993, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. established an Environmental Council chaired by the Company's president. Subsumed under this council are four specialized sub-councils, which together deal with every aspect of vehicle-related environmental problems.
One problem on which the Council focuses is the recycling and renewal of used vehicles. At the product stage, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. aims to be able to recycle 90% of all vehicles announced after 2000.
As part of that effort, the Company prepared the Vehicle Overhaul Manual, which explains overhaul procedures for used Mitsubishi vehicles from light vehicles to large trucks and buses. Through Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s marketing subs ideally for passenger cars, trucks and buses, this manual is distributed to affected operators throughout Japan. By distributing this manual, we hope to encourage the appropriate processing of used cars so as to broaden participation in recycling activities.
This manual discusses in detail how to eliminate components that must be pre-sorted from used cars (parts containing toxic substances such as lead, as well as oil, fluids and gases) as directed in Guidelines for Sorting of Electrical and Mechanical Components before Shredding Vehicles, published by the Ministry of Public Welfare. The first manual to cover elimination of pre-sorted items large trucks and buses as well as ordinary passenger cars, some 2,000 copies of the Vehicle Overhaul Manual have been published.
In the future, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will continue to press forward with development of vehicle recycling technology and reflect these results in the pages of the Vehicle Overhaul Manual. We are committed to serving society through our leading role in promoting environmental preservation and recycling.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. aims to contribute to communities both in Japan and abroad, as a fair and unique general automobile manufacturer. As a good corporate citizen, we will continue to develop our business while safeguarding harmony with the environment.
