REMOVAL - REFITTING STEERING COLUMN

1 - REMOVAL

Remove the battery style cover .

Disconnect the battery .

Protect the front seats .

Move the front seats fully backwards .

IMPERATIVE : deactivate the centralised airbags and seat belts system ; FOLLOW THE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS .

Remove :

• the safety clip
• the bolt (1)
• THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG

Lock the steering lock .

Unscrew a few threads of the steering wheel securing bolts .

Release the steering wheel from its splines by tapping the rim with your hands .

Position the front wheels straight ahead .

Remove the steering wheel securing bolts .

Make a mark at (A) to guarantee the position of the steering wheel on refitting .

Remove :

• the steering wheel, after routing the connectors through the opening on the steering wheel alternately
• the bolts securing the steering column cowls
• the lower column cover

Unclip the upper sleeve at (B) and remove it .

REMOVE THE ASSEMBLY (COM 2000) .

Detach the wire retaining clip (2) from the right .

REMOVE THE IGNITION SWITCH (3) .

Uncouple the steering rack valve stem .

Remove :

• the securing bolts (4)
• the steering column

2 - REFITTING

NOTE : respect the marks made on dismantling .

Proceed in the reverse order to removal .

REFIT THE AIRBAG .

IMPERATIVE : activate the centralised airbag(s) and seat belts system ; FOLLOW THE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS .

Check that the electrical accessories operate correctly .

Initialise the various ECUs .

Tightening torque(s) :

• the steering column to bracket fastening(s) ; 2.2 da.Nm
• steering column universal joint fastener ; 2.5 da.Nm
• steering wheel fastener ; 3.3 da.Nm + FREIN FILET
